Vital training makes Hughenden safer
You could be driving to work, at a family picnic or simply doing your grocery shopping when suddenly you are in a situation where your next action means the difference between life and death.
Already on Queensland roads this year, there has been more than 140 deaths, with the average age of the deceased being under 40 years.
St John Ambulance (Qld) Trainer Mark Richards said knowing what to do in an emergency can be the difference between life and death.
“The statistics on our roads are not good, but knowing how to do something as simple as calling an ambulance, maintaining an airway or stopping bleeding might change the numbers on our roads,” he said.
Mark Richards has worked as a trainer for St John (Qld) for more than three years, and was previously a Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic for two decades.
“I know what it is like to arrive at a confronting scene where someone is bleeding, in pain or unconscious – if you equip yourself with first aid skills, you can assist and feel a lot less helpless.”
St John Ambulance runs first aid training throughout the Longreach area for a variety of different people.
“We have first aid courses for parents, grandparents, school leavers as well as work employees, electricians and even remote and mining workers,” he said.
“St John trainers give you more than a certificate – when you book a course with us, you are buying the confidence to provide first aid,” he said.
Unlike other training organisations, St John Ambulance courses are back by a medical board, dedicated to ensuring the testing and first aid information given is absolutely up-to-date.
“First aid is our passion and our business, so we are constantly updated with any changes in the industry.”
Mark said whether you learn first aid for use at home or the workplace, you never know when you will need to use it.
“Your first aid training may just save the life of a loved one.”
St John (Qld) will be running a Provide First Aid course at the Diggers Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 15 September. Training starts from as little as $75 and is nationally recognised. To book, call 1300 ST JOHN or visit www.stjohnqld.com.au.
