St John Ambulance (Qld) St Lucia Division can now respond to more emergencies thanks to the recent funding of two advanced medical kits and training field guides.
St John (Qld) St Lucia Divisional Manager Mel Ansford said without the support from Cr Julian Simmonds and the Brisbane City Council, the Division would struggle to afford the state-of-the-art gear.
“This year, volunteers from the St Lucia Division have already contributed close to 4,000 hours to the community, at local events as well as disasters and emergency evacuations across the region,” she said.
“It is so important we have as much vital equipment as possible so we can deploy members to as many regions throughout South East Queensland, so the funding of these advanced medical kits is priceless,” she said.
The Division also received specially made clinical reference guides, written for St John volunteers.
“Although pocket sized, the field guides offer us an invaluable amount of information at our fingertips and allows our members to provide higher quality care to casualties.
The grant from the Brisbane City Council has honoured the council’s commitment to providing a friendly and safe city.
The St Lucia Division volunteers provide important first aid and advanced medical assistance to the local community and attend events such as school fetes, carnivals, rugby matches and ANZAC Day commemorations. If you are interested in receiving nationally recognised training or would just like to give something back to your community, call Mel Ansford on 0413 448 021 or email stlucia@stjohnqld.com.au.
