St John Ambulance (Qld) Mackay Division are now even more prepared to save a life thanks to the generous funding of resuscitation equipment as well as oxygen therapy and trauma equipment from the SUEZ Community Grants Program.

The grant, valued at over $4,700, was funded when a need was identified by the Division to have more emergency equipment on hand.

“Mackay is a beautiful place to live and work, but unfortunately we are susceptible to severe weather and cyclones,” Mackay Divisional Manager Linda Fielder said.

“When a disaster occurs, our volunteers are on call, and will man evacuation centres to provide vital first aid and medical assistance to residents,” she said.

“This equipment will be used at disaster centres across the Mackay region, as well as our day-to-day first aid events throughout the year.”

The Division attends events including shows at the Convention Centre, Australia Day festival, Mackay Sugar Family Fun Day and ANZAC Day commemorations.

“We hope we never have to use the equipment to resuscitate someone, however it is great to know we have the equipment on hand thanks to the SUEZ Community Grants Program,” Linda said.

SUEZ State Commercial and Industrial Manager, Paul Haslam, said SUEZ was proud to support St John Ambulance (Qld).

“St John Ambulance provide an invaluable resource and with this new equipment, will be able to continue assisting the local Central Queensland community,” he said.

The Mackay Division has more than 30 members, with members as young as nine years. If you are interested in giving back to the community, receiving nationally recognised training or would like to attend more events in the Mackay region, call Divisional Manager Linda Fielder on 0419 782 981 or email mackaydivision@stjohnqld.com.au.
