Re: National Volunteers Week

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, St John Ambulance (Qld) wishes to thank all of its members for their continued support and dedication to Queenslanders in need.

More than 1,860 volunteers each year provide about $4.6 million of vital services to local communities across Queensland through Event Health Services and Social Services programs.

Our Event Health Services donate their time to local events across Queensland, ranging from small school events to large music festivals and concerts and providing emergency medical service care at major stadiums, treating almost 17,000 casualties each year.

Social Services volunteers travelled more than 540,000kms last year, ensuring the disadvantaged have access to safe, affordable and assisted transport options. Silver Cord Service volunteers made an average of 87 calls per day to provide vital friendship and security calls to isolated members of our community and our Health Care volunteers donated closed to 20,000 hours to assisting patients and their families in hospital.

Without the continued dedicated and committed St John Ambulance (Qld) volunteers, these services would simply not be available.

The drive, passion and commitment our volunteers possess ensures St John (Qld) continues its 130 year promise to all Australians – dedicated to helping people in sickness, distress, suffering or danger. Whether it is a deployment to cyclone ravaged towns, waking up to provide advanced medical assistance at ANZAC Day dawn services, lending a helping hand to those in distress or simply reaching out to the elderly through our Community Services – St John is there at a community’s greatest time of need.

Queensland is a safer and better place thanks to our volunteers. We wish to thank them for their hard work and commitment to the wellbeing of others, and look forward to another successful year in the community.

Yours sincerely
