The Brisbane Central Division recently was awarded the St John Ambulance (Qld) Jubilee Award in recognition of 50 years of providing first aid to Brisbane residents.
Divisional Manager Doris Haddock said the Brisbane Central Division has witnessed a lot since 1964, and have been at the forefront of assisting the community.
“In the last 50 years, our volunteers have assisted at various disasters including the ’74 floods, 2011 floods, Victorian bushfires, as well as the day-to-day events such as the Ekka, ANZAC Day parades and the recent Royal visit to Brisbane.
Doris said the Division were a very special group of people, who were passionate about helping locals in their time of need.
“Many of the members in the Brisbane Division are doctors, nurses and paramedics with our emergency services, making them the experts in providing first aid and advanced medical care,” she said.
“Our other members come from all walks of life, and include many teachers and university students - but we all share the same dedication to assisting someone in need,” she said.
The Brisbane Central Division boasts more than 115 members, making it the largest Division in Queensland.
“Our Division proudly trains those as young as 8 years of ages and over,” Doris said.
“Joining St John (Qld) is perfect for someone who wants to give back to the community, make new friends, gain experience in the health care industry as well as have some fun and witness some great events across Brisbane.”
